It gives me great pleasure to extend a warm invitation to you to participate in TCS Summer Meeting in Tokyo, jointly held with the 47th Annual Meeting of the Carcinological Society of Japan. The Organizing Committee is preparing an interesting and informative scientific program, intending to gather an international faculty of experts in many fields of crustacean biology. In addition to keynote addresses and symposia given by invited overseas and Japanese speakers, individuals are invited to submit abstracts for presentation as talks in concurrent sessions or as posters. The Organizing Committee and I are certain that you will find the meeting both enriching and enjoyable, and look forward to seeing you in Tokyo in September 2009. Seiichi Watanabe President, Carcinological Society of Japan, 2009-2011 Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology |

It has been a longtime dream for us to hold the TCS Meeting in Asia. My special gratitude must go to TCS Past and Current Presidents, Drs. Frederick R. Schram, Jens Hoeg, Gary C.B. Poore, Trisha Spears, Jeffrey D. Shields, and Rafael Lemaitre, as well as the board of the governors of TCS for their help, efforts and encouragement to the council of Carcinological Society of Japan and myself to make this conference possible. I hope that the Tokyo Meeting will provide a good opportunity for personal exchange of scientific results, facilitate the making new acquaintances and strengthen personal friendships among crustacean biologists from different parts of the world. | |||||||||||

The Crustacean Society is very proud to join the Carcinological Society of Japan in sponsoring our next meetings in Tokyo, September 20-24, 2009, to be hosted at the beautiful Shinagawa Campus, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology. This will be the first time that TCS will hold its annual meeting in Japan or the Asian region. I would like to cordially invite all scientists and accompanying guests interested in crustaceans, to join us in what promises to be a fascinating and stimulating meeting, and where I am sure we will experience the famous Japanese hospitality and organization. Many symposia will be held. I hope that all of you will feel as excited as I am about this historical meeting, and strongly encourage you to attend Rafael Lemaitre President, The Crustacean Society, 2008-2009 National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, U.S.A. |

The Crustacean Society meetings are great opportunities for carcinologists from all parts of the world and from all disciplines to come together to learn from each other. As at the Fifth International Crustacean Congress in Melbourne in 2001, and at TCS meetings throughout Europe and the Americas, I am confident that the conference in Tokyo will attract many colleagues with interesting observations to share that will stimulate discussion. I urge you to join friends and members of The Crustacean Society and of the Carcinological Society of Japan in a program of symposia as diverse as Crustacea themselves. Gary C. B. Poore Convenor, Fifth International Crustacean Congress, Melbourne, Australia, 2001 President, The Crustacean Society, 2002-2003 Museum Victoria, Australia |

As the president of The Crustacean Society 1999-2001, my primary intention was to create tight cooperation with national carcinological societies around the world. The Carcinological Society of Japan (CSJ) is one of the largest and most well functioning such entities, and I am delighted that the TCS and the CSJ are now announcing a joint meeting. I am well acquainted with the very high standard of Japanese carcinological research. This, and the exciting culture, makes every visit to Japan an experience to remember. I look forward very much to landmark event in the history of both the CSJ and the TCS. Jens T. Hoeg President, The Crustacean Society, 1999-2001 University of Copenhagen, Denmark

I would like to extend my congratulations to Dr. Asakura and his administrative team on organizing the first meeting of The Crustacean Society to be held in Asia. I would like to extend to him my very best wishes for a successful gathering in Tokyo in the Fall of 2009. I hope this will prove to be the basis for many new collaborations between the Carcinological Society of Japan and The Crustacean Society. Frederick R. Schram Convenor, Fourth International Crustacean Congress, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 1998 President, The Crustacean Society, 1986-1987 Editor, Journal of Crustacean Biology Professor Emeritus, University of Amsterdam |

I want to take the opportunity to invite you to attend to the TCS Meeting in Tokyo in 2009. Like in the past TCS meetings around the world, and personally for my own enjoyable experience organizing one of these in Brazil, I am more than convinced that the atmosphere in this next crustacean conference in Tokyo will be a wonderful opportunity for professional interaction among researchers from several countries and will provide many important advances and an opportunity to identify gaps and priority themes by exchanging information and experiences on crustacean research. I also wish to extend my congratulations and a great success to all members of the organizing committee, Carcinological Society of Japan and TCS. Fernando L. Mantelatto Past-President of The Brazilian Crustacean Society Convenor, Third Brazilian Crustacean Congress & TCS Mid-year Meeting, Floriano´polis, Brazil, 2004 |
