The Japanese Association for South Asian Studies (JASAS) was founded in 1988. As a nation-wide academic body, JASAS holds annual
sessions and publishes Journal of the Japanese Association for
South Asian Studies (JJASAS) (from 1989) and International Journal of South Asian Studies (IJSAS) (from 2008). JASAS helps maintain scholarly communication
among its members, as well as contacts between Japanese researchers and research
organizations and their foreign counterparts. Sometimes JASAS organizes also
seminars, research projects, etc.

JASAS office bearers have changed.
Election of the members of the board of Directors of the Japanese Association for South Asian Studies (JASAS) was held in 2008 and new board members began their activities from October 2008 with Professor Haruka Yanagisawa as President.
