Anyone making an oral or poster presentation is invited to submit a manuscript to be considered for publication in the peer-reviewed proceedings. The deadline for the first submission of the manuscript was fixed on 15 October 2004.
Manuscripts based on meeting presentations must meet both the scientific standards and the submission schedule in order to be accepted for publication. Note: The papers must be based on, and address the subject of, the meeting presentation, but need NOT to have exactly the same title, co-authors, or abstract
Manuscripts should not normally exceed 10 printed pages (approximately 7000 words) including all figures, tables, and references. Manuscripts should follow the Coral Reefs format unless otherwise mentioned
For the first submission of the manuscript, prepare one paper copy of the manuscript plus a computer file on diskette or CD. The complete manuscript, including tables and figures, should be saved as a single MS-Word or PDF file. Be careful that the manuscript must be outputted in the form of double spaces and of single column. Standardized file name consisting of mini-symposium number, family name, and means of presentation ("o" for oral and "p" for poster) like "5-10_NAKAMORI-o.doc" should be used. Please include a cover letter suggesting reviewers.
Authors should submit the manuscript and the electric files to the Secretariat for the 10th ICRS (address below), not to the convener(s), by 15 October 2004.
Authors will be notified by the editor of your manuscript (one of conveners of the mini-symposia) about the results of review by early January. Revised manuscripts should be sent to the editor of your manuscript (convener) before 28 February 2005. Final decision of the acceptance will be made by the convener(s).
After the acceptance, final copy must be prepared in accordance with the PDF template available on the 10ICRS web page (http://www.plando.co.jp/icrs2004: Instructions for Proceedings authors, 10ICRS paper template), and should be sent to the convener by 30 April 2005. Final copy and electronic files on diskette or CD should be mailed to the Secretariat for the 10th ICRS (address below) before 31 May 2005 from the convener(s). Please follow the same naming rule for the electric files as in the first submission. The final version of the manuscripts should be submitted in PDF files. MS-Word files with notifications on computer system and version of MS-Word can be also used if you do not have Acrobat PDF Writer.
Please ask the Secretariat for the 10th ICRS, if you have any question about schedule or procedure for writing the Proceedings manuscript. |

| · Abstract |
|
Each paper must be preceded by an abstract stating the rationale for the study and presenting the most important results and conclusions in no more than 250 words. |
| · Key words |
|
4 to 6 key words should be supplied after the Abstract for indexing purposes. |
| · Abbreviations |
|
Should be defined when first mention in the abstract and again in the main body of the text and used consistently thereafter. |
| · Acknowledgements |
|
These should be as brief as possible. Any grant that requires acknowledgement should be mentioned. The names of funding organizations should be written in full. |
| · References |
|
Should be defined when first mention in the abstract and again in the main body of the text and used consistently thereafter.
Citations in the text should be as follows:
(Konishi 1985; Eakin and Glynn 1992; Smith et al. 1995)
demonstrated by Konishi (1985), Eakin and Glynn (1992), and Smith et al. (1995)
The list of references at the end of the paper should be alphabetized under the first author's name. References by the same author or team of authors should be listed in chronological order. |
|
Here are a few examples for the style of references:
|
Glynn PW, Perez M, Gilchrist SL (1985) Lipid decline in stressed corals and their crustacean symbionts. Biol Bull 168: 276-284 |
|
Grassle JF (1973) Variety in coral reef communities. In: Jones OA, Endean R (eds)
Biology and geology of coral reefs, Vol: Biology 1. Academic Press,
New York, pp 247-270 |
|
| · Illustrations and Tables |
|
All figures (photographs, graphs or diagrams) and tables should be numbered consecutively and cited in the text as Fig. 1, Table 2, Fig. 2-3.
Magnification should be indicated by scale bars. |
|
Plates:
Several figures or figure parts should be grouped in a plate on one page.
Figure legends must be brief, self-sufficient explanations of the illustrations.
Tables should have a title and a legend explaining any abbreviation used in that table. Footnotes to tables should be indicated by superscript lower-case letters (or asterisks for significance values and other statistical data). |
| · Scientific names |
|
For all species studied, the complete scientific name with taxonomic author and date (Galaxea fascicularis Linnaeus 1767) should be given either at the first mention in the text of the paper or in the Methods, but not in the title or abstract. Thereafter, use the full binomial (Galaxea fascicularis) when first mentioned in each section of the paper, and then abbreviated (G. fascicularis). |
| · Electronic submission of final version |
|
Please submit the final version of the article on floppy diskette or CD, along with a printed copy. |
| · Proofs and reprints |
|
We will not send proofs to authors, as final version submitted to the Secretariat office will appear in the Proceedings as is. No reprints will be available. |
| · Copyright |

Accepted manuscripts become the permanent property of the Japanese Coral Reef Society. |
