1. Types of the articles

The Journal of the Physical Society of Japan (JPSJ) contains the following types of articles.
For general format and style, consult recent issues of this Journal.

Full Paper: Reports of important original researches in all the fields of physics.
It must be self-contained and must be understandable to the readers of other fields of physics.
No limitation of length.

Letter: Intended to secure prompt publication of important new discoveries in physics.
The results of extended research programs should be presented as a full paper rather than as a series of letters.
Maximum space is 4 printed pages.

Short Note: Brief reports of new discoveries in physics.
Maximum space is 2 printed pages.

Comments: Comments on original articles published in JPSJ.
Maximum space is 2 printed pages.

Addendum: An author's comment to her/his own article published in JPSJ.
Maximum space is 1 printed pages.

Erratum: Corrections to the author's own article published in JPSJ.
Maximum space is 1 printed pages.

2. Language

Manuscripts must be written in English.

3. Submission

Do not submit manuscripts that have been accepted (or are under active consideration) for publication elsewhere.

An original manuscript with reproduction-quality figures should be sent to:

Tokyo 105-0004, Japan

Contributors in Japan are required to attach a "Tokohyo" to their manuscripts, while contributors from abroad are requested to attach an "Application for Publication in JOURNAL OFTHE PHYSICAL SOCIETY OF JAPAN" form both forms are printed in the back pages of this journal every January and July.
These are also available from the JPSJ office. The application forms include the Agreement of Copyright Transfer Form and the Payment of Publication Charge Form, which should be signed by the authors.

The papers will not be published without properly completed forms.

After publication, the manuscript and the original figures including photographs will not be returned to the author(s).

4. Refereeing

The Editorial Board will pass the manuscript to a suitably selected referee for comments, after which the Board will make a decision on concerning editorial procedure.
Authors will receive notification of acceptance or rejection of their manuscripts, or request for revision.
Authors whose manuscripts are rejected may submit one reply to the criticism of the referees for consideration by the Editorial Board, if they wish.
Manuscripts returned to authors for revision should be resubmitted within three months for letters, and within six months for full papers, short notes, and others.
Manuscripts not returned within the above-mentioned period will be regarded as having been withdrawn.

5. Proof

A galley proof only will be sent to the author.
Letters will be checked by the editor instead of the author to expedite publication.
The Editorial Board will pass the manuscript to suitably selected referees for comments, after which the Board will decide whether or not to accept the manuscript for publication.
Authors will receive notification of acceptance or rejection of their manuscripts, or request for revision.

6. Publication Charges

To support the costs of publication of the Journal, the authors (or their institutions) are required to pay the publication charge:

(p: number of printed pages, X: number of additional reprints in unit of 50, F:
number of figures and photographs.
Extra charges are required for color printing etc.
The details are given on the back cover of this journal ).
The publication charge entitles the author to receive 50 reprints.
The publication charge must be paid even if a paper submitted to the Journal is withdrawn by the author after the printing procedure has been started.
Nonpayment of the publication charge may lead to delay in publication.

7. Copyright

Copyright for the article submitted to this journal is transferred to the Physical Society of Japan when the article is published in the journal.
After publication by JPSJ, the authors may use all or part of their articles in compilations or other publications of their own work on the condition that written notice is sent to the JPSJ office, and that full acknowledgment is given to JPSJ as the original source.

8. For Preparation of Manuscript

Manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with "Instructions for Preparation of Manuscript".
