Introduction to the Japanese Society for Alternatives to Animal Experiments
We are an academic research organization that has as its purpose to promote research, development, education, and studies related to animal welfare and alternatives to animal experiments, disseminating the results of these activities.
In order to do so, we hold academic conventions, issue society publications, provide research aid, and collect, manage, and provide information.
This society was launched in 1987 by Dr. Tsutomu Sugahara (currently Professor Emeritus, Kyoto University) as the "Japanese Study Group on Alternatives to Animal Experiments.". Later in 1989, its name was changed to the "Japanese Society for Alternatives to Animal Experiments," and continues to this day.
