In 2002, JSME will change the rule of free accessible online journal of Microbes and Environments. The members of JSME are able to freely access the whole contents of the online journal as their membership benefit. Research contents of 12 months after initial publication and all of abstracts are opened as a freely accessible electronic library for the people on the Web.

The Japanese Society of Microbial Ecology (JSME) present an award to author(s) whose excellent and intensive work in the field of microbial ecology is published in our Journal, "Microbes and Environments."
