Sponsored by
American Welding Society
in Collaboration with
Japan Welding Engineering Society
Japan Welding Society
New Zealand Welding Society
Maui, Hawaii - October 5-7, 1998
This major conference will feature primarily the results from experiences gained in several major earthquakes on the north island of New Zealand, southern California, and central Japan, although significant experiences from other areas will also be included. It will span the gamut from research to repair, from design to inspection, from welding process to workmanship, and from building code to local practice.
Authors are not limited to any specific topic areas, except that papers should be appropriate for the conference theme. The following general topics are suggested:
- Structural Systems and Behavior (materials, columns vs. beams, dimensioning, bracing, moment resisting design)
- Connection Design and Details (weld tabs, top and bottom flanges, overall performance)
- Welded Joints and Detailing (weld and HAZ properties, toughness requirements)
- Fabrication Techniques and Practices (acceptance criteria, practices)
- Repair and Strengthening (column reinforcement, repair of damaged buildings, retrofit of existing buildings)
Abstracts should be 250-500 words and should be accompanied by a short biography of the author showing work experience in this subject area. Please complete the Author Application Form, and send your abstract and biography before the deadline date of October 1, 1997.
