Scopes
The 1st APLS was held in 1998 at Cheju in Korea and is being held every 2 years, the 2nd in Shanghai of China, the 3rd in Osaka of Japan, and the 4th APLS will be held in Yongpyong of Korea again. The scope of this symposium is laser related research field which is so many areas as laser has many applications. And the following research areas are encouraged to be treated in this 4th APLS to exchange the necessary information among the Asian-Pacific countries;

  1. High Power Laser(Gas, Liquid, and Solid state)
  2. Femto-second lasers and its applications
  3. Semiconductor Lasers
  4. Laser Plasma/Particle Interaction and Laser Fusion Energy
  5. Laser Material Processing Laser Metrology
  6. Medical Lasers and its applications
  7. Laser spectroscopy and Nonlinear Optics
  8. Diffractive and Micro Optics Fabrication
  9. Others related to lasers
The symposium will be held for 6 days to treat the subjects in depth as possible as we can. It will be composed of several plenary lectures, the invited papers, the oral, and poster presentations in each field. The students are strongly encouraged to give oral presentations if possible. The detail discussions will be made in the poster session, so that the authors are encouraged to submit the papers as oral presentation and poster presentation simultaneously if it is necessary to discuss the items through the poster session in more detail.

Submission of papers
  1. The due date of the submission of papers is 20th of December 2003.
  2. The papers should be written by the MS WORD and the format is given in the end of this.

Registration
Pre-registration before 20th of December 2003; US $ 500, US$250(students).
Registration after 20th of December 2003; US $ 600, US300 (students).

Accompanying program
  1. We will prepare very nice accompanying program. Yongpyung resort area is the center of the National Park in the East part of Korea. And there are many historically important place (Temples, Korean Traditional Schools, and many beautiful scenic views). So every attendee is recommended to accompany their family if possible. The detail excursion program will be prepared and these will be announced soon.
  2. The Yongpyong resort is the biggest Ski-Resort in Korea. And we have negotiated the prices of the Package of the Ski-Lift ticket, the Ski-Rental, and the Ski-School with the Yongpyong Resort Company as 50 % discount which is great price to enjoy the Skiing in the best season for skiing. The beginning of March is among the best season to enjoy Skiing in Yongpyong. Every attendee is encouraged to bring only the Ski-wears (cloths, gloves, Goggle, and hat). The ski-wears can be rent if you want but it will be better to bring your own if you have them.
  3. Yongpyong resort also has many recreational facilities including sauna, indoor swimming pool, many kinds of restaurants, pubs, bowling, game rooms, karaoke, and many other interesting things to enjoy yourself. Scientific tour program
Yongpyong is located far from every research institutions, over 3 hours by cars. And this tour will be decided soon by the program committee and will be announced.

Skiing in Yongpyong
Skiing time: Types of tickets (Normal price/from after 2nd of March)
Ski rental: 22,000 won per day

Ski school: 44,000 won for day time, 33,000 won for half day

Every APLS attendant will have the 50 % discount of the lift ticket, Ski rental, and Ski school. APLS will have the more discounted rates for the attendants who reserved before 20th December 2003.

Instructions for Preparation of Abstract and the Manuscript for Proceedings

How to prepare the Abstract
This abstract, prefaced by the title of the talk (in lower case letters except for proper nouns) at the top of the paper, followed by the author's name, affiliation, complete return address should be double-spaced on a single separate sheet. In the case of multiple authors, each author's name and address should be listed separately after the title. The use of scientific symbols as well as acronyms should be avoided in the abstract and title.
  1. Paper size: A4 size
  2. Language: English
  3. Length: 1 page (including figures)
  4. Quality: Camera-ready copy. The way you submit your manuscript to the publisher is the way you will see it in print.
  5. Electronic submission: The abstract and the manuscript can be submitted by e-mail if it is prepared in PDF file or written by MS-Word.
    If there is no figure or tables, normal text file is also acceptable (editorial committee will adjust the format).

Instructions how to prepare the camera-ready manuscript
  1. All submitted manuscript on white A4 size paper (210x297 mm) will be photocopied. Therefore, you must prepare it with care and it is your responsibility of your article after it is published.
  2. The total pages of each contributed work should be no more than 4 pages (6 pages for invited speakers) including figures and tables.
  3. It is recommended that figures and tables are inside the main body of text.
  4. A single spacing between lines is preferred. Suggested margins are 3.0 cm for top and 2.7cm for bottom, and 2.5 cm for both sides.
  5. One blank space separates each chapter and if desired, each chapter may have sections in 3.1, 3.2 etc. One blank space is needed before the main body of each chapter starts.
  6. The manuscript (or presentation) may be written either in English or in Korean.
  7. Do not type page numbers on the manuscript. We will insert the page numbers. Do not leave extra space in the type area for the page numbers.
  8. We illustrated a typical format of the manuscript. Please read it carefully. You will have additional important instructions.
  9. The manuscript can be submitted by e-mail if it is prepared in PDF file or written by MS-Word.
