Mathematics Education Society of Japan

Message from the President

   MESJ (Mathematics Education Society of Japan) is the academic society
open for those researchers who would try to study technically pedagogy of 
mathematics and pedagogy of information processing.
Our academy started in 1959, with the aim of the technical research of the
pedagogy of mathematics.
Since then, for fourty years, the society has brought up many researchers,
and many research achievements had been made.
Now it is an academic society registered in the Science Council of Japan .

   Today, it has as many as ten study groups,each specializing in various
fields. These fields of specialized study cover not only mathematics
education in the universities, but also high school, elementary school and
kindergarten mathematics education.    Researches are made from the
standpoints of fundamental, international and historical interests.
The relations between information sciences and mathematics are  important 
research objects, too.

    At the annual and regular meetings in spring and autumn, we have
several sessions where we held technical lectures, discussions, and 
symposiums.
On the other hand, our society academic meeting has held and sponsored 
international conferences since 1979 with researchers and acamedic societies
in China and the West.   At these conferences, many members of our society
have been publishing researches of internationally high technical evaluation.

    It aims at contributing to the improvement and development of
science and culture through the research of the mathematics education from 
the standpoint of mathematics, mathematics education, informatics, and 
information education.

    We, all the members of the MESJ are hoping to extend and deepen
friendship and the bond of solidarity with all the participants of this 
conference, ICME9, and do research together with all of you to contribute 
to the development of the pedagogy of mathematics and the pedagogy of 
information sciences of Japan and the world.
